Sobre l'autor (1787)

Mendoza y Rios (1762-1816) was an influential mathematician, astronomer and naval officer. He spent many years travelling on commission by the Spanish navy to collect cartographic information, and later immigrated to England where he continued to study nautical astronomy. His navigation tables, and improvements to the Reflecting Circle led to significant advances in the problem of locating the position of a ship at sea. In this treatise he discusses the theory and practical applications of navigation. The book contains two folding maps. One map shows the northern Atlantic, charting the Americas from Labrador to the Caribbean. The other is a world map showing the routes of various explorers, including Cook's three voyages.
