Everyone’s favourite Clueless star (including Paul Rudd, and that’s saying something), Alicia Silverstone, has spoken out with enviable sass over TikTok at being called “fat” in a paparazzi photo.

The picture, which is of Silverstone out and about in a gorgeous navy blue slip dress. And we must say, she is looking FIT. Alas, the caption to the picture has included the words “candid” and “fat”.

Silverstone came up with a deliciously iconic response to this clear disrespect of her body, by creating a TikTok that calls out this image and its body-shaming message, going on to show her giving the camera the middle finger, complete with a smile. What better clapback is there?

The caption to her video says: “Damn, I think I look good”, and we agree.

Even better, US singer Gayle’s empowering anthem “ABCDEFU” is playing in the background of the video, with the “FU” underlining how the actor really feels about others passing judgement about her body. 10/10.

This isn’t the first time that Alicia Silverstone has had to deal with body shaming from the media. A fan TikTok video showed pictures of old tabloid articles from the 1990s that likened Silverstone to “Babe the pig” when she was just 19 years old, as well as discussing her weight loss plans. Horrific.

Why is Taylor Swift such an easy target for male disdain and disrespect?

Her talent has been questioned because it had the audacity to best theirs, or because she used it to call them out.

In an interview with The Guardian back in 2020, Alicia opened up about how she dealt with tabloids focussing on her weight from such a young age.

“They would make fun of my body when I was younger,” she said of how certain media outlets treated her. “It was hurtful but I knew they were wrong. I wasn’t confused. I knew that it was not right to make fun of someone’s body shape, that doesn’t seem like the right thing to be doing to a human.”

She also stated in this interview that a journalist had asked what her bra size was in the past. Eek. “There were working circumstances that were less than favourable in terms of how things went down,” she said. Back then, she describes not saying “f*ck you” but still “walking away”.

While we most certainly have a long way to go when it comes to empowering every single female body in every single form, at least our girl Alicia feels she can say “FU” to body shaming through TikTok and live her best body positive life. We’re here for it 100%.
