Don Adams starred as Maxwell Smart/Agent 86 in Get Smart. The television series introduced baby boomers with their first concept of a portable phone—his shoe. The only time he used a phone booth was to portal to the underground spy headquarters of CONTROL, whose mission was to keep KAOS (the evil-doers) at bay.
The spy spoof was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, after the increasing popularity of the James Bond franchise. The iconic series aired for five seasons and continues to run in syndication all over the world. In a 2008 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Brooks said, “It’s an insane combination of James Bond and a Mel Brooks comedy.”
Bumbling Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 for CONTROL, with a great deal of help from his smart and beautiful partner Agent 99 played by Barbara Feldon, battle the evil forces of KAOS. Max's standard line "Would you believe?!" became a national catchphrase. After a five year run, the story line ended in 1970 with Agent 86 and 99 getting married and having twin babies.
Get Smart received 14 Emmy Award Nominations and won 7 Emmy Awards including 3 Emmy Awards for Don Adams.

Maxwell Smart was called back to duty in the 1989 television movie Get Smart, Again! The comedy reunites the cast and the movie is dedicated to Edward Platt who passed away in 1974, he was 58 years old.
In 2005 Don Adams passed away at the age of 82.
In 2008, the feature film Get Smart was released starring Anne Hathaway and Toluca Lake resident . The action adventure comedy did very well at the box office with $231M worldwide. Get Smart 2 is currently in development with Peter Segel slated to direct with Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Alan Arkin attached to the project.
The re-makes still feature the beloved shoe phone.
